I enjoyed the hands on activity that began this institute. I liked the map on the wiki of all the participants of this institute and where they live. I have books in my school library on the water cycle that I have read to my class and I look forward to learn more about water and our environment.

Tuesday - Reflections and Images

I enjoyed testing the water samples. My partner collected the water sample from her well because I have city water. I live near Lily Creek in Elkart which drains out of Simonton Lake and drains into the St. Jo river so I collected a sample from it to test for fun. I was surprised in that the levels of the elements weren't that far off of the other samples. I don't think I would

have my students collect samples as I don't think they would be responsible for the vallid data.

Wednesday - Reflections and Images

Today we entered our data into the computers. This would be too involved for my children in 3rd grade. I would be afraid that I would send invalid results due to children making mistakes on the computer. I enjoyed the visits to the labs.

Thursday - Reflections and Images

I enjoyed today the most because we were doing hands on activities. I'm anxious to see the results of the e-coli testing. I liked the lesson plans that Jessica gave us from ABC of Ecology book. The Prairie Winds Farm sounds like an awesome field trip but not sure my school would allow it.

Symposium Presentation
1.Class Unit Enrichment Activities. I would use the groundwater model system in my classroom. It was easy to do, used materials that were readily available, and grade appropriate for 3rd grade.
2. Water Testing. See Tuesday reflection.
3. Wellhead Protection Data Management- This would be too difficult for third grade.
4 Tours. Due to a hip injury I couldn't join the walking tours.
5. Place Based Education. I think that is such a wonderful idea!!!! I wish there was a way I could apply it to my class. We do not have areas outside for outdoor study, nor do we have transportation to travel to areas.
