2010 Enviro Summer Institute

As a chemistry teacher, I think I'd use the groundwater model to talk about the nature of water (cohesion, adhesion, capillary action) because students should be able to see this from the side of the clear plastic tray.
I think the scavenger hunt could have been a little condensed. Maybe a little bit of an amazing race situation where Mike, Carrie, and I go to different coordinates on campus and have people complete one of two tasks. This may only work if we have prizes. We definitely need to remind teachers to where walking shoes if we are going to have them walk a good distance. I hope teachers take good water samples tomorrow morning/this evening.

Tuesday - Reflections and Images
Today's activities went. The next time we do them, we might be able to say they went well. I think the importance of taking more than one reading was learned today. I also think that setting up probe stations where the labquests and probes stay stationary while students move from table to table would help. This would reduce the amount of time needed for calibrating equipment. However, students should probably do the strip tests for their wells first, as the labquest may bias a color interpretation.
